Rubi McGrory is an artist, writer, chef and alchemist who aims to spin all manner of material into something magical, colorful and delicious—often at the same time.

An exuberant maker from the time she was allowed to play with crayons and glitter unsupervised, Rubi earned a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Connecticut and earned her MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Never one to collapse creative possibilities into a single discipline, she produces a relentless amalgam of media, combining graphic design, illustration, animation, textiles, installation, color theory, collage, and language. Her work has appeared in juried shows and galleries across the U.S., including Savannah’s Location Gallery. She is the author of the coloring book “The Best Adventure Ever,” and her artful preservation of a McDonald’s hamburger is the subject of the short film, “Patty Turns 10.”

Her perpetual access to creativity has been burnished by decades of daily practice, not just one but many: Drawing, yoga, sitting in silence and other disciplines every day feed her productivity and refine an ever-expanding vision of a colorful, compassionate world.  A Reiki master, laughter yoga leader, and meditation teacher, Rubi leads workshops and art retreats around the country and online, touting the universality of artistic ability. Everyone has creative muscles, she teaches. They just need to be exercised. Every day, Rubi makes a tiny drawing of her favorite part of the day, check them out here: @iridescent.extraordinary

Rubi’s talents also extend to turning raw ingredients into flavorful, eye-catching meals that satisfy body and soul. Specializing in vegetarian and vegan fare but with grilling skills envied by omnivores, she received formal culinary training at New York’s Culinary Institute of America and the Royal Thai School of Culinary Arts in Bang Saen, Thailand. She spent two and a half decades as a chef aboard private and charter yachts worldwide (as well as some land based kitchens). She regularly consults on unique menus and tablescapes for parties and events. Check out her food based instagram @big.cookie.energy

Her social media feeds reflect her kaleidoscopic universe, usually accompanied with nuggets of positive wisdom and/or friendly monsters. The Connecticut native and global citizen currently creates from the third floor of a historic moss-draped brownstone in Savannah, GA. Follow her artful projects @rubistudios

Rubi is also an ordained minister who has married over one hundred couples in historic Savannah, its environs and up and down the eastern seaboard of the U.S. Contact her about performing your ceremony, she’s all about eloping!
